Arjan’s work focuses on sustainable development in the built environment, with a particular emphasis on environmental and nature-based technologies, urban metabolism, the circular and biobased economy, urban climate, and environmental behaviour.
He is a Full Professor at TU Delft, Academic Portfolio Director of the Sustainable Cities programme at the TU Delft Extension School, and Principal Investigator at the AMS Institute in Amsterdam. He leads several international research projects and serves on scientific boards, steering groups, Urban Area Quality Teams, and editorial boards. In addition, he lectures worldwide as an expert and keynote speaker.
