Metropolitan Club 3: Today's role of the urban designer

On 22 February 2022, the section of Urban Design organized the public debate ‘Today’s role of the urban designer’ as part of the series ‘The Metropolitan Club’.

The Metropolitan Club is an event series hosted by the Section of Urban Design. Students, professionals, experts, and educators come together to explore on-site projects and engage with the Dutch practice.

Following the line or arguments set out in the previous Metropolitan Club debates and drawing on the Delft tradition of urban design, the third Metropolitan Club session is dedicated to questions concerning “Today’s role of the urban designer.“

We discussed with practitioners, students, as well as acclaimed international academics their views on the future role of the profession of urban design and education.

The event counted with contributions by:

  • Aric Chen, General and Artistic Director Het Nieuwe Instituut.
  • Markus Appenzeller, Director Academy of Arts Amsterdam.
  • Polis, Student Organisation, BK, TU Delft.
  • Lot Locher, International Director, Climate One Architecture & Urbanism.
