Part-time Professor of Urban Design (2 positions)

This job opening is no longer accepting applications.

The Urbanism department is looking for two part-time professors of Urban Design. The appointment of the professors is aimed at giving the faculty education and research in urban planning an active role in the interaction between the education and research of the Section of Urban Design on the one hand, and practice and society in the form of governments, companies, organizations. and citizens on the other.

Based on their broad practical experience, they contribute to the development, implementation and valorisation of Urbanism’s education and research programmes. The professors are expected to intensify the relationship between university, practice and society by putting on the agenda and researching crucial urban issues from society, making them accessible and understandable for students and colleagues, and to introduce these into the social debate. Their role is to give an impulse to the interaction with parties from society and in this way to strengthen the transdisciplinary character of the faculty, department and section.

The part-time professors develop and provide design education in urban planning in the Bachelor’s degree in Architecture and in the Master’s track Urbanism of the Master’s degree in Architecture, Urbanism and Building Sciences. They make an active contribution to the various education and research programs by addressing the future challenges facing urban planning and focusing on attracting potential partners from practice and society, in the private and public sectors. The candidates are expected to select current issues and assignments of cities or regions and, on the basis of specific case studies, in collaboration with governments, institutions, companies and citizens, to connect design education and research with relevant design processes from practice. In addition, the professors reflect on the substantive quality of education and research and make proposals for improvements. In connecting the education and research of the section with social issues in society, the professor works together with employees of the Urban Design section, but also of the Urbanism department and the Faculty of Architecture as a whole. For more information about the work of the Section of Urban Design look at the content of this website.

The professor’s network also makes the faculty, department and section more closely intertwined with assignments from municipalities, designers and other stakeholders in the urban design process. Together with colleagues, the professor will develop projects of social relevance for the Urbanism Master’s track, for the Architecture Bachelor’s degree program and for applied research into urban design. They also play a prominent role in the national and international debate.

The appointment of two part-time professors for 0.2 fte each brings balance to the staffing of the section, which now mainly consists of several assistant and associate professors, and (practice) teachers. The professors contribute to the organization and leadership by, among other things, playing a role in the supervision, development and good embedding of practical lecturers in urban planning in the section and department. They participate in the Management Team (MT) of the Urban Design section and, if necessary, are prepared to represent the section within the MT of the Urbanism Department.
