Meyer, V.J., Van den Burg, L.P.J. (2005), Working for the City: 25 Years of Work from the Urban Design Departments of Amsterdam, The Hague, Rotterdam, Rotterdam.

In dienst van de stad / Working for the City is the second in a series of exhibitions and publications organized by the Department of Urbanism of TU Delft on the works of contemporary Dutch urban design firms and departments.

The choice of the municipal urban design departments of the three largest cities as the subject of this second exhibition and publication was motivated by the significance these departments have had on the ‘Renaissance’ of urban design since the beginning of the 1980s. Initially, these were set in design concepts and planning methods dating from the post-war periods, but since the 1980’s the city departments have developed new design concepts and planning methods that played a major role in the development of urban design practice in the Netherlands as a whole.
